Living With Ultra-Matte: What to Know

Ultra-matte lacquer is a multi-coat finish cured to an extremely low gloss level, so it absorbs light rather than reflecting it. The effect is architectural — colors read deeper, surfaces feel soft rather than shiny, and the kitchen recedes into calm. Modern ultra-matte systems include anti-fingerprint treatment in the topcoat, which is the single most important specification to ask about: early matte finishes earned a reputation for smudging that today's soft-touch surfaces have solved.

Care is simpler than most expect: a microfiber cloth and mild soap solution, never abrasive pads or solvent cleaners. Because matte hides reflections, it also disguises the everyday — water spots, dust, and minor wear show far less than on gloss. Where gloss still wins is in very small or dark rooms that need every ray of bounced light; everywhere else, matte has become the default language of contemporary Italian design.

Binova's matte lacquers span a curated architectural palette, and in the showroom you can put fingerprints on them yourself — the honest test no brochure offers — then compare the same tones in wood veneer and gres for two-material compositions.
